GEOL 3rd Floor

Helpful Hints

Basic Information:

The third floor of the Geology building has been updated and revamped to be a hub for six receive classrooms. These classrooms include GEOL 301A, GEOL 301B, GEOL 301C, GEOL 302, GEOL 308, and GEOL 310. Instead of having mulitple facilitators stationed throughout the third floor, we have opted to create the GEOL 3rd Floor Shift. Instead of facilitating individual courses, you will facilitate a shift. As the facilitator of the third floor, you will be responsible of setting up multiple courses that meet during the same period and performing site check for each room. Due to the nature of this shift, you will be performing setups and site checks throughout your shift in each of the six classrooms. Please be aware of the times you will need to set up and be ready to set up each class when it is time. After site check has been completed, you will station yourself outside in the hallway of the third floor. There, we will have you monitor Slack and be on-call in case any of the classes have technical problems.

You will find a Monday-Friday schedule in this Google Sheet to help you know which classes you will be covering for the duration of your shift. Please have this sheet open throughout the entirety of your shift so you can use the information as reference.

For information on the individual classrooms found on the third floor, please see the Classroom Information page and refer to GEOL 300-numbered rooms.

Facilitator Station:
You will most likely be facilitating multiple classes throughout the duration of your shift. As always, prior to the class starting, please conduct site check-in and help students get situated with the technology. Then, once the room has been set up, station yourself outside in the hallway (near GEOL 302) and be sure to let students know where to find you if things go wrong with the equipment.

If you are only faciltiating one class during your shift, please station within the classroom that you are faciltiating, not in the hallway.

There is a "Facilitator Here" notice you will need to velcro to the wall. The notice will be found in the remote box. When you arrive, put the notice up and place the notice back in the remote box when leaving.

Material Box:
The Geology third floor will have one material box for all the student mic remotes for each classrooms found on that floor. This material box is found in GEOL 302. In the box, there will be several bags that are labeled by classroom. Please make sure to return all 6 remotes to the box at the end of the class if there is not another class directly after.

End of Class:
The third floor classrooms also double as face-to-face classrooms for the University. When each class is over, please remember to disconnect from the Zoom call and return the touch panel to face-to-face mode when the room will not be in another call directly after a prior call. To do this, you will select the home button on the right-hand side of the touch panel.

Known Issues

If there is a classroom that is locked, go down to the second floor. There will be an open door to an office area to the left when coming down the stairs. (There should be a sign directing you). If you are having trouble finding it, it is the same office as the one for the geology museum. If the office is closed, please start a chat so we can get someone over as quickly as possible.
